What is Our Big Goal and What is Tracking?
Big Goal: In our math class we strive to reach our goal of 80% mastery. An 80% mastery of all math objectives means you will be ready for 7th grade math and beyond! In order to learn, we need to push ourselves. Expecting that we’ll only get a few of the problems right isn’t enough – we need to believe that we can achieve. If you aren’t getting it, I’m going to work harder as a teacher to help you understand it by reteaching it in another way or giving you more practice time to help you get more right.
Why is our Mastery Goal 80%?
· Just right – Setting a goal of 4 out of 5 correct (80% mastery)
o Ambitious: The 80% target means that students are ready to move to more complex content because they can demonstrate they have mastered the learning goal 4 out of 5 times!
o We can do this! We all make mistakes. Missing one might mean that you made a simple error just once, but that you mostly know the material.
What are we tracking?
This means we will strive to get an 80% or higher on all IXL homework assignments, Exit Quizzes, and unit tests. In order to meet this goal, we will track our progress daily and monitor what skills we master and what skills we need to go back a relearn!
Before we begin any unit we will take an initial pre-test to see where we are before we begin the unit. Then when the unit is over, we will take a unit test and be able to see how much we grew!
